Your website is the closest thing to a first impression your business will have with many of your prospective and paying customers. Adding all of the modern features, such as a responsive web design that adapts to any screen size, lots of pictures with a minimalist design, and clear organization so your traffic knows where to go, only goes so far. Here are a couple of things NOT to have on your website no matter how well-designed it is:
Contact information that is hard to find or suspicious
Even if your business operates entirely online and provides an online service, prospective clients almost always check for contact information at the bottom of your homepage and on a specific contact information page. It reassures them that your business has a physical address (even if it’s a P.O. box) and a real phone number. Not having that information acts as a subconscious alarm for new visitors.
Content with typos and dated information
Typos show a lack of expertise and, depending on your business, might make your customers think you’re an offshore scam. Information that’s long out-of-date is almost as bad. It can make visitors think the site has been abandoned, and a lack of regular updates is never a good sign even for free promotional content.
A lot of web design advice focuses on what to include: testimonials, professional design, organized information, and more. But it’s just as important to avoid negative signs as it is to include positive features.
